Starting TPDP/YnK, need an opinion.
« on: March 24, 2016, 02:15:19 PM »
Good morning (it's morning here right now), guys. I discovered this forum in the first place because a friend of mine bought this game not too long ago and then showed it to me, telling me he found out about it from Reddit, how to buy it and that he could get me a copy of it. I decided to accept this offer, but then I notice there is Touhou Puppet Dance Performance and Yume no Kakera (which, as far as I know, is an extension of the last). What I wanted to is: Should I play TPDP first or start right away with YnK? YnK being an extension of the first game, should it be the same as TPDP, but with added content? Are they standalone by themselves?

I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!

YnK requires the base game to be installed to run, but otherwise there is no particular need to play the base game first. even if you import your save from the first game you start over from the beginning anyway. I don't know if you miss out on anything if you don't import a save though.

EDIT: it's also worth noting that there is no english patch for YnK just yet, so if you can't read japanese and care about the dialogue you may want to play the original.

While YnK is an expansion of the first game there are some differences in the areas, such as the roads heading south out of the village and the cave behind the Hakurei shrine (item locations included). The story also changed, resulting in you going in different directions from the first game.
