Good strategy for *spoiler*
« on: June 28, 2015, 08:55:23 AM »
I keep getting my ass handed to me by the Makai Four-in-a-row. Anyone have any good strategies - Which can include going and catching something or grinding, but I'm not gaining much XP anymore. I've only gotten to Shinki once, and it took twenty revives and twenty full potions - after which I ran out of cash.

The revives would be infinitely more useful if they healed me fully - I can only take two and a half hits on average and then die. And they seem to be cheating, because I get crit'd pretty much every attack and my type matchups are crap...

My party is this
 * Speed Kagerou, Level 76
      Speed+64, Fo.Atk+33, Sp.Atk+33
      A+, C+, A-, D+, S, B+
 * Defense Keine, Level 81
      HP+64, Fo.Def+1 Sp.Def+1, Speed+64
      C+, S, A, B-, D+, A+
 * Defense Suika, Level 74
      HP+64, Fo.Def+32, Sp.Def+32
      Starter: A+
 * Assist Eirin, Level 69
      HP+64, Fo.Def+32, Sp.Def+32
      C+, A+, D, D, D, D
 * Speed Flandre, Level 64
      Fo.Def+2, Sp.Atk+64, Speed+64
      E-, S, E, E, A-, A
 * Speed Youmu, Level 69
      HP+23, Fo.Atk+64, Sp.Def+43
      E-, E-, B-,  D, S, D+

Generally speaking, Kagerou serves well only as a sweeper. INCREDIBLY FRAGILE. Suika and Keine have served generally well through the game. Eirin is my new favorite - she's a poison inducing survivalist (If not for her crappy defense - she still can take hits and minimal damage at 15lvs lower, though!) Youmu and Flandre are generally filler - they've proven useless so far.

Halp?  :rolldice:

(Also this game was the best 26 dollars I ever spent. 27hrs logged in this playthrough and 24 in my incomplete run in japanese.)

EDIT: Also, I've gathered pretty much every spell card - there's only a few missing.

I used Kagerou speed for most of the game and was able to solo the makai4 with her but you are also fairly underleveled. I also know that a Chen Assist can solo it easily as that is what I do for the speed run.

If you use Chen or Kagerou just make sure you have strong Wind/Earth skills with some other move for coverage and are level 85+ at which point they can pretty easily solo everything with minimal help.

Dem IVs for Eirin, Youmu, and Flandre...

It would also help if you listed their movesets and held items. Type-boosting items can go a long way.

Personally, I stand by having coverage moves to handle puppets that you'd be otherwise weak against or have no answer to. Priority moves are also a thing if you're into Revenge Killing or taking things out that have boosts up, but this is coming from someone who hasn't reached the Makai Four yet.

EDIT: In regards to grinding, try grinding puppets one by one (as in, leave the ones you aren't grinding in the box; don't take them with you). I usually get more experience for them that way, even if it is a bit less safe and a bit more time-consuming.

EXP doesn't get split at all so you can train everything all at once with no penalty.

Also ya knowing movesets would be helpful, a good rule of thumb is 1-2 STAB moves and 2 coverage moves

Another thing you can try is find something with a set up move that can take a few hits like a defense Murasa, you can often topple the harder fights at a lower level if you spend some time healing and setting up.

With regards to movesets - I have 999 PP, so I can swap moves out pretty much endlessly, and at this point it's 'what Spell Cards am I missing'. I picked up literally everything - that included the candies. Chances are, if it was lying around somewhere, it's in my inventory. I also didn't actually realize that I was that severely underlevelled - with pokemon, I have a habit of scooching by the elite four sans any grinding and like ten levels lower. ;P

Anyways, movesets at the moment.
Eirin - Mysterious Liquid, Local Downpour, First aid treatment, Miasma.
Keine - I've been swapping stuff out. Can't figure out what to use, but the one useful (if not low SP) is Chrysanthemum water. Also gets STAB.
Suika - Exploding Blaze, Sorrowful Tune, Grand Liberate, Aura Drain. Mostly good. Move #2 keeps getting swapped out.
Kagerou - Macroburst (Power but not enough SP to be useful), Godspeed Air Raid, Lightning Speed, Dark Performance
Flandre - Flashover, Arclight, 12th sign(warrior), Darkness sweets
Youmu - Sword of reversal, Soul Hound, Cruciform, Concentrate stance.

My inventory is so full I'm not even going to list it. It would take too long to type.

I'm really regretting the lack of power puppets at the moment. I know the IVs are terrible, but catching the same thing N times when there's a reliable fix postgame is kinda a waste of threads...and despite Eirin's abysmal IVs, she still does better than the rest of them. I'd be very scared against a S-rank Assist Eirin.

Anyways, off to snag a Chen and Murasa to test them out. I guess I'll report back. :S

I found a reliable method to quickly own the first round battle, so as it turns out, repeatedly attempting and failing to beat all four was an incredibly reliable grinding method. Just the first fight hands out about 10x a strong wild, and you don't lose money from defeat here. ;)

Anyways, I just won. Yay. Play time: 28:10.
