Question to how I should translate
« on: December 31, 2014, 04:18:44 PM »
Hi everyone,

I was going to translate in the script text, so I was wondering how I should do it?
In the "gn_dat3\script\talk" path are several txt.files.
Can I just translate the text by replacing the Japanese text with the English text (and keeping the "\t,etc.") and then reupload the files here?

Yes, replacing the Japanese text with English text in the same files is sufficient. Make sure you keep the formatting consistent.

I was actually going to ask something similar. I'm sure there's a character limit per line we'd need to know and was curious if adding additional lines would break anything.

That said, I think it would be a good idea for prospective translators to communicate with one another on what they're working on, if just to avoid doubling up efforts.

@Kinsei
OK, then I'd like to translate from 001 onwards.

So, would this be OK?

Quote
? ? ?

Hey\b
\o
......\b
\o???
\cHey, won't you wake up?\b
\o
......\b
\o???
\cLet's just talk a bit.\b
\s955
You finally woke up.\bHow are you?\b
\cMe? I'm Yukari Yakumo. Nice to meet you, I suppose?\b
\oYukari
It's sudden, but do you know about Gensokyo?\b
...you don't?\b
\cGensokyo is a place where the forgotten things arrive.\b
A world of left behind things.\b
\cIt is strange...\b
\cOh, you seem like you're interested.\b
Hehehe, I'm also interested in you.\b
\cIt's a bit trouble some, but can I ask you a few questions?\b
First, can you tell me your gender?

PS: OT: I don't know how to get this "[ spoiler ]" working.

Hm... except for one error (and a number of personal nitpicks), it looks good to me. For comparison, I did a quick translation of my own:

gn_dat3\script\talk\00100.txt
Code: [Select]
???
00
Hey...\b
\o
......\b
\o???
\cHey, could you wake up?\b
\o
......\b
\o???
\cShall we talk for a bit?\b
\s955
You finally awoke.\bHow do you do?\b
\cMe? I am Yukari Yakumo. Pleased to meet you, I suppose?\b
\oYukari
I know it's sudden, but do you know of Gensokyo?\b
...Perhaps you don't?\b
\cGensokyo is said to be a place where forgotten things arrive.\b
A world where that which cannot be exists.\b
\cGhosts and the like...・\b
\cMy, your face says you're interested.\b
Hehehe. I have an interest in you as well.\b
\cSince we're here, may I ask you a few things?\b
First off, will you tell me your gender?

To be honest, I was going to translate since I expected no one would translate this.
But after seeing how many ppl are making so many efforts in translating this game, I'm really wondering
why I should even bother...

Don't get me wrong, you're all doing good works.
But I think I just don't want to put my self under (even more) pressure.
Maybe I should just try to assist in translating, rather then translating on my own.

@Translation
Yeah, アヤカシ always used to confuse me, since I was never sure if it was just a short version for 妖怪.
Anyways...

Good work, everyone.

Well I didn't mean to run you off or anything. I've just been doing translations for awhile and I get... well, as stated previously: nitpicky.

I came in on this not expecting much in the way of translators as well, which is why I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring to assist. My current translation project otherwise is... not high on my priority list at the moment and I could use something worthwhile as a legitimate excuse to procrastinate on it. This seemed the perfect thing.

Oh, no, no, it's not your fault.
I know what you mean by nitpicky.
E.g. I noticed that there are those who try to translates each word and their are those who try to translate it this way that it sounds "natural".
But I also used to like to translate every word, so that no content is lost.
But at some point it just sounded so unnatural, like when you try to translate gobis.
On the other hand I also don't like it how they translate Marisa's phrases, like with tons of apstrophies.
But in the end, that's how different Japanese is.
And I'm totally digressing...

As for me, translating is more like a practice to improve my Japanese skills, that's why I would like to help, but I do not have as many experience as other may have.

Thus, let's see how this translation project turns out, and let's see if I might be bored at some point and just translate some stuff.
