Fan-made hacks / Re: touhoumon purple

Yay I'm glad it made you happy.  I didn't expect you'd like it that much though, so I feel a little self-conscious somehow but also honoured.  Anyway, you're welcome!

This hack just got updated again as recently as yesterday so I think it should be fine for me to post in this thread even though it hasn't gotten a reply in so long, even if necroing threads is normally a concern (I'm not sure how it gets treated in this community).

I just wanted to give some feedback and say that I really appreciate that you are still updating this hack, as well as that you made it in the first place.  I played it in the past, though I didn't really get very far but hopefully that will change soon.

Sandbox Mode in particular is interesting to me because it opens up so many new possibilities for the player!  Sure, you can use it for game-breaking things if you want, but it is not at all limited to just that.  For example, maybe after you played Puppet Dance Performance, you wanted to try starting with whatever puppet you felt like starting with in Purple, instead of being limited to only the puppets that are available early on.

If I make a rom hack of my own, I probably will draw inspiration from Sandbox Mode in order to give more options to the player, and as a result, hopefully greatly enrich their experience.

Again, thanks so much!

What can I say, this hack is one of the most interesting pokemon rom hacks out there for me right now.  I really like the idea.  The 1.5 puppetdex has a lot of weird stuff that I don't know what to think about (like Marisa being an Electric type), but it also has a lot of draw for me specifically because it isn't as balanced as 1.8 and therefore the capabilities of the puppets are at least a bit more representative of the characters they are based on.  It makes me feel more like I have puppets based on those characters, and as a result I become more attached to my puppets.  Some of it's other consequences are rather unfortunate, but oh well.

I would have even been thinking about asking for permission to use this hack as a base for a hack that I'm thinking about making, but as I am very much a newbie to hacking, some of the bugs that this hack has make me feel rather helpless.  I don't know how much I would be able to do about them.

Regardless, it is really impressive that you did all this and I'm also really glad to see Touhoumon hacks still getting updates in 2017.  Thanks a lot for the update!  Hopefully I get around to playing this soon.

Fan-made hacks / Re: Touhoumon Blue - Zeph's Edited Version

Just wanted to say thanks for the update and that I appreciate it!  Initially I was logging in to this forum again just to say that but it is true that I ended up posting something else first.

After seeing this update I decided to finally give this game a shot and so far it has been a wild ride.  When I caught a CUtsuho I thought the game was going to be easy from then on but so far it is really really not.  To be fair though, I have two fire types, an electric type, and a puppet that doesn't focus much on offensive capabilities, and I have not passed Mt. Moon yet.  Here is my current team:

I will probably replace Marisa with Koishi eventually when I manage to find one wherever they are (Chireiden is the best!), and I typically keep one or two spots open for HM slaves.

I wonder where this journey will take me from here.  Once I manage to beat Brock and pass Mt. Moon, I suspect things will get easier for me because then rock and ground types will be less prevalent and I will be stronger.  But looking at how crazy this game has been so far, who really knows!

Well, my main questions are these:

1.  Is there something like a Touhoumon rom base that is available to me?  I am thinking of using Fire Red specifically, although I am probably not opposed to using Emerald if there is a good enough reason for it.  I don't know Japanese and am therefore not in any position to try translating the original 1.8 to use as a base.  I am aware of this but unless the translation is complete, I can't really use it (and I don't know whether I need permission as well?).  There is also this but I would almost definitely need permission for that (but I mean, if I can get permission then that's fine...).

2.  Is there something like English documentation of the puppets, moves, types, abilities, and etc. of 1.8?  The closest thing I can think of is this.  If I'm not using a Touhoumon rom as my base, then I guess I'll be implementing the Touhou stuff myself...

3.  Speaking of which, where can I find sprites that I can use?  Mostly, I'm talking about puppet sprites.  I would prefer to implement even the th15 and th16 characters as puppets, but those are not the only puppets that I am asking for sprites for.  Some puppets may not even have sprites yet for all I know and I understand if so.

In truth, I don't really know much about making a rom hack, and I have not yet made the decision to work on one but I am currently reviewing my options for resources that I can use.  Once I know more about what is available to me and what I can expect, then maybe we'll see.

I do realize that this is going to be a lot of work.  Especially because I am not planning to use a standard 1.8 puppetdex.  I want the puppets to represent the capabilities of the characters more than they do in 1.8 and so I would prefer the puppets to be less balanced than in standard 1.8 (although I'm not satisfied with the 1.5 puppetdex either).  Unfortunately that means some puppets will just be flat out better or worse than others, but I would like to find something of a middle ground and avoid making any (evolved) puppet totally useless competitively.  This is going to be difficult to say the least, especially seeing as I think some puppets like Yukari puppets deserve legendary-like BSTs because in Touhou they are crazy strong, but I think I will want to tone that down a bit too or else I will never find that middle ground.  I was going to avoid going above a 680 BST but now I think maybe it should be more like 620, hmmmmm.  Maybe something like a range of 420 to 620 for evolved puppets?  Of course, stats aren't everything though so that is just something of a guideline that I'm thinking of and not a hard limit.

The way that I'd like to do it is to have one unevolved puppet of each character and then 2-3 evolved forms that you can choose between for each one.  I am not planning to categorize them based on things like Power and Speed and Defense and Assist.  I don't know how I'll name the evolutions but in essence I think my plan is to make something like a "normal path" evolution where it's capabilities seem most representative of the character it is based on, and then 1 or 2 "alternate path" evolutions for those who would prefer to do something else with that puppet.

One of my overall goals for this hack (if I make it) is to leave something good in the capabilities of each and every evolved puppet so that no matter who your favourite is, you will have fun using them, while also feeling closer to that character because of the more representative (and less balanced) dex.

Just having 3  forms (including the unevolved one) for each puppet is going to make for a big dex, and I am not sure how much I will be able to expand the dex, which is why I'm cutting out the idea of having middle evolutions.  These days though, some people are even expanding the dex of Fire Red and Emerald to like 802+ entries, but I don't exactly have much hope that I'll be able to push it out that far without just using a rom base that has that work done for me (there are some like that, like this and this).  Although, I haven't done much research into that so maybe I could even manage to push it out that far on my own, for all I know.

Touhou Puppet Dance Performance / Re: Onedrive Problems / Update Mirror
« on: December 19, 2015, 12:51:46 AM »
The Onedrive page seems to be working now (may have been down temporarily), but in the event it still doesn't work, use these link:

Update Mirror No. 1 (Mediafire)
Update Mirror No. 2 (Mirrorcreator)

The zip file has all three current update files, all of which are also in their own zip file (how it was in the Onedrive Link). Just be careful if you unzip them in non-JP locale, since their file names are all in Japanese.

I'll update these once Hemo's TPDP Expansion is released, but until then I hope this helps you and anyone else.

Wow, thank you very much! Everything seems to have worked and the game seems to be running fine, in English no less.

Well, everything except onedrive. That onedrive page still doesn't work for me. It looks the same as in that screenshot in the first post, even now.

I'll probably need to ask around for mirrors for any updates I particularly want, though I'll keep in mind that you mentioned plans to update these links when that expansion is released.

Once again, thanks!

Touhou Puppet Dance Performance / Onedrive problems
« on: December 18, 2015, 09:13:21 AM »
I installed the game, I have the english patch and the program with which to use it, and I found that I can get the last things I need (the update files for the game) from here:
http://www.fo-lens.net/gn_enbu/download.html

So I thought that everything was going smoothly, but nope. This is what I get when I load that onedrive page:

Furthermore, those links on the page do nothing more than take me to https://profile.live.com/.

I'm using firefox, but I don't think that any of my add-ons or settings are getting in the way. It isn't like I'm refusing to run their scripts, or to let them set cookies, and I even tried turning my ad-blocker off.

So, I'm looking for a mirror for the update files. Please, will any of you provide me with one? It would be very much appreciated.
