Touhou Puppet Dance Performance / Re: Game no longer starts
« on: May 03, 2016, 09:10:09 AM »
Did a google translate and got

"Files required to run the game could not be found. Please run "fantasy doll dance performance" is confirmation of on again have been installed correctly."

my guess is something to do with dat maybe? or a failed patching?

Even without admin privs id probably move over to an official tpdp server anyways as the only people on the speedrunning one that ever really talked was me and Dabomstew. makes more sense to just have a speedrunning channel on a more universal tpdp discord server.

Discord is pretty awesome so i recommend setting one up. The speedrunning one is pretty dead at the moment as I have been busy with school but it'd be nice to have a more general official discord set up.

Metagame Discussion / Re: Typing

If only there was a convenient database like this for TPDP. Then, it could be alot easier to find out which move type combinations would truly be super-effective against the widest number of Puppets possible (and would verify whether or not a combination of Earth, Steel, Dark, and either Wind, Nature, or Sound Type moves would be the best at exploiting the weaknesses of the widest number of Puppets possible).

Although your chart claims that, among the puppets in the OU tier, Earth Type attacks, followed by Electric, Fighting, and Sound Type attacks, have the largest amount of super-effective hits against them, what's to say that there isn't any overlap in terms of weaknesses (such as certain Puppets being weak to, say, both Earth and Fighting Type attacks)? I personally have little need for such redundancy.

I already had the Puppet DB built so I threw some stuff together and made some formula's to make just that. :) Also added in a filter for Tier ranking.

Some notes first...
The count is the total number of puppets in the database list which has multiple entries for the puppet's different abilities, this means that the data is slightly skewed as puppets with only 1 ability will only appear once and abilities on puppets that will never get used are still being counted when they probably shouldn't.
Also I never bothered collecting usage data for normal form puppets so they do not have a tier label and are never counted. Not really that important as you would never use them in competitive play but just keep it in mind.

Now the actual calculator (Hopefully you have excel or something that can open excel documents without butchering formulas)

guess I will post some of my observations just because whynot?

Path going west of Genbu Ravine has opened up (the map already existed) so the story might take us to the Sanzu River.
Warp location appears to take us to Marisa's house instead of that random empty house in the Road of Reconsideration.
Extra warp point to the southeast of Mayohiga to Sukuna's Castle.
Sukuna's castle has a strange red/blue block that works like a warp, suggests that there might be more to puzzles now.
Kappa Village warp point removed and replaced by Tengu Village.

Another thing to keep in mind when thinking of type coverage is that not every type is equally represented in true competitive play.. I posted a topic analyzing the meta game awhile back which showed the distribution of types at different tiers if you want to look over that.

Unfortunately we already know that no new dream type moves have been added at least to the trial and nothing that really suggests that they would be taken out for the trial. Though it is certainly possible that one of her style changes might have an ability to make her type relevant.

Try reinstalling the game while in japanese locale. That worked for me back when I first got the game.

Did you accidentally use the patch for the trial version?

bumping this for update and hopefully to try and lessen the load on the Wiki.

http://www.mediafire.com/view/37vpmfd3e3favic/tpdp_PuppetDex_1.9.xlsx

Finished updating the offline puppet dex to have the current translations
Only differences between Excel and game is that Waterfall Drop and Concussion have been fixed on the Excel form to show the proper descriptions.

Those of you interested in puppet stats and movepools may find this link useful: http://www.fo-lens.net/gn_enbu/dolldata/dollIndex.html

It's all in Japanese, but it's much faster (and more informative if you can figure it out) than our wiki.

Another option is to download my puppet dex here http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/forum/index.php?topic=496.0

Just as accurate as the jp site and translated but it does require people to have something that can open excel files and must be downloaded.

The most obvious Defensive core I see is Water+Nature which combined cover eachother very well except for poison. However poison is massively underrepresented among the common puppets so you will likely not be taking any STAB poison hits letting something else take the hit for you. Though poison is a pretty common coverage move as it hits a large amount of popular puppets. Steel should get an honorable mention as a pairing with the other two as it is immune to poison resists some of the most common type moves and is a powerful offensive typing as well.

so in short... Water/Nature/Steel I guess? ...too lazy to look for more.

Metagame Discussion / JP Meta Analysis
« on: November 27, 2015, 04:17:51 PM »
Using data from http://gensou-suwako.com/correct/URViewer/URrank.php I put together a tier list using the same methods that Smogon would use in their initial process to set up a tier list. After finishing that I decided to make some charts to look at how the metagame shapes up.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fOra416UsiWZ1GX2u65IB-5B0gnQgIynf2wBY-7inRQ/edit#gid=1550230088&vpid=A1

So of the 236 puppets available (Normal forms excluded) 54(~23%) are OU, 74(~31%) are UU, and 108(~46%) are NU.
Additionally of the 118 different characters 49 appear in OU which is about 41.5%.
Predictably lower costs tend to be lower tiered but not as much as you might expect.
As for coverage in OU, Earth and Electric hold the top while Wind is surprisingly lack luster being used mostly as Stab.
As for the OP types in the game. Appears as though Water and Wind are the strongest types with Electric shining through likely because of the prevalence of the other two.
