Translation project / Shard of Dreams - Bug Reporting Sheet
« on: October 11, 2018, 03:17:34 AM »
Please only submit one issue per report. If you have multiple things to report, make multiple submissions.

It's been long enough since the release of the translation build, time to start addressing issues in it.
Please keep in mind, we will only be addressing bugs from the public release build, not the Leaked 99% Build or the Interface Translation Patch.

Translation project / State of Affairs: November 3rd, 2017
« on: November 04, 2017, 03:13:48 AM »
Status of Affairs

We all knew it for a while but honestly it's time I stepped forward and was straight up: the project is not being translated, work on it hasn't been done in over a year, and nobody on the team really seems to care any further about the project itself. I can't blame them, it was a catastrophe from day one. Constant in-fighting, debates, the loss of team members because of such quarrels. Honestly, if I was an outsider, I wouldn't have wanted to get involved either.

I've done a lot of thinking on it, and I've made my decision: effective immediately, I am stepping down as head of the project. I am making the executive decision to put an end to this withering corpse once and for all. I was not suitable for the task of leading the project, and when the other head of the project left I knew it was basically dead. There's someone out there who can manage a translation project, manage a team, but that person absolutely isn't me, this endeavor has taught me that much at least.

I've uploaded the entire archive of what we had translated and what remained. Keep in mind, this is not the whole game, just the files required for translation. I do not know how to decompile the game, I do not know how to recompile the game. If someone else is aware, I encourage them to post about it in this thread.

I apologize for being quiet on this matter for so long. I had hopped that we could get a translator on board and finish the project soon, but unfortunately that didn't work out, hence why the decision has been made to end it here. Hopefully whoever picks this project back up will be able to complete it and allow people to enjoy a wonderful game.

This game will only work in Japanese Locale. Your computer either needs to be in native Japanese Locale, or you need to have Locale Emulator (specifically, NOT AppLocale) to emulate the game in Japanese Locale. Otherwise the game will display corrupted text for the HP Bar and other places. When you install the game you must ALSO install it in Japanese Locale, or else the game will have crashing issues.

Interface Translation Patch - Build 2

Here's a link. In it is the installer for the Interface Translation Patch.
Here's another link. This is a mirror in case the first one goes down.

This patch translates the core interfaces of the game, the bare minimum to make the game playable to English audiences. Skills, Abilities, Items, Puppet Names, Puppet Encyclopedia, Gap Map names, Some trainer names, AI Puppet names, Map location names, and Graphical Interfaces, all that has been translated. This build does NOT translate the story, NPC dialogue, Trainer dialogue, or all of the exe strings. Those will come in later patches, dedicated to their translation. If you see anything untranslated that does not fall into the stuff intentionally left untranslated, please report it to us.

To install this patch, you will need to have your game's folder relatively unedited. For best results, we recommend running the installer via Japanese Locale or Locale Emulator. You will need to have the game's files intact in order for the installer to apply the changes. Even though the installer will automatically back up the modified files, we recommend manually backing up the original dat folder and 幻想人形演舞-ユメノカケラ-.exe, in the case of an accident.

Remember to save often just in case something is broken, and we don't have any problematic crashes plaguing you.

I sincerely apologize for the delay in getting this out, the translation team and I have worked to make sure we translated stuff as best we could. We really believe we've done the absolute best we can. Hopefully you all are able to enjoy it, and we will work on getting the Story Translation Patch out as soon as possible!

Touhou Puppet Dance Performance / [Discussion] Discord Server
« on: May 03, 2016, 05:07:43 AM »
I've been thinking about setting up an official discord server for the community. For those unfamiliar with Discord, it is a program similar to Skype and Ventrillo/Mumble/TeamSpeak. While it is still in development, it is vastly more stable than other alternatives out there (skype). It allows you to make a server, which can have multiple channels on that server dedicated to whatever purpose needed. It also has the ability to create different voice channels, so not everyone has to use the same voice chat if they want to discuss different topics.

I mostly bring this up because I've heard of at least two different communities over on Discord for the game - a generalized one, and the speedrunning community. I figured this might be a good way to get the communities to merge into one so it's not as splintered. Discord also feels somewhat easier to use than IRC in some regards, and is definitely more user friendly than Skype. The only real disadvantage to using Discord over IRC is that Fivequestionmarks, the channel bot, will not be on the server (also a lack of colors for text, but who knows, that could theoretically come in a future update).

This post is being made to gauge interest: Would you all want/use a Discord server if one was made and publicized to the community?

It's dead and gone, the userbase kept hammering it with activity to the point where it was using 300 gigs of bandwith in a week.
I don't have the energy to properly discuss the details but basically until we can find somewhere else to host it, there will be no wiki.

Touhou Puppet Dance Performance / "What's going on with the wiki!?"
« on: November 29, 2015, 09:56:13 PM »
Long story short, 50000 hits an hour is happening to it. We really didn't take into account how much activity the wiki would be getting after releasing the patch and all the people that are on it, probably opening multiple pages at once trying to cross-compare Puppets or look up abilities and skills, is just causing the server it's being hosted on ti go into a temporary coma. I've talked to exsariel about it, and there's not much we can do for it at the moment I'm afraid. Please bear with the issues for now and we apologize profusely for this.

So earlier today we discovered a tweet from someone at Comiket 88 that may lend credence to the idea of there being a Massive Content Update DLC patch for Touhou Puppet Dance Performance. The tweet had the following photo attached to it.

Running this photo by some people who could rough out what it was saying, we have learned a few new things.
  • Sumireko is present in one of the screenshots, meaning we will have puppets from Urban Legend in Limbo and likely Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom in the newest release.
  • According to the image, there will be a three new Styles to shift into, as well as a new type (Rough translation of the new type comes out to something like Chaos if I remember right.
  • There will be new events across the game, as well as new locations to travel to. perhaps we might get to see some unused content get used?
  • A puppet is following behind the player in a screenshot? Perhaps we might have puppets following you in the C89 build?

Feel free to use this thread as a place to discuss what you'd like to see in the C89 build of TPDP, or if you're able to translate Japanese feel free to offer your skills in giving us a proper translation of what this image says.

Touhou Puppet Dance Performance / Analysis of the Map files
« on: June 18, 2015, 09:51:23 AM »
So, the core map folder (\gn_dat3\map\data) has three files in each individual map folder. I have figured out what each file roughly does.
  • ###.fmf - This file contains the map design and where objects are placed.
  • ###.mad - This file contains all the data for the map, such as the music, the encounter table, the map name, tileset, etc. I'll get into this down below.
  • ###.obs - This file controls warps and other object locations, such as NPCs and Item balls.

Now, I've spent roughly the past 2 hours going over the .mad file to try and decipher what it contains. I've managed to figure out most of whats in it, save for 2 things. There's also some things that need some additional checking, but that's something to do at a later time. These are the findings of my investigation, this should help in getting information for the wiki prepped, as well as making a tool for extracting the information a whole lot easier. The example map used here is the Garden of the Sun, map 160.

It seems that battle background determines the wild battle music used. I have a hunch this is determined somewhere within the executable file, unless I'm just really thick and overlooking it somewhere. As for the Overworld Fog Effect, there are 8 values for it.
  • 01 - Normal
  • 02 - Forest Darkness
  • 03 - Mist
  • 04 - Snow
  • 05 - Falling Cherry Blossoms
  • 06 - Red Hue
  • 07 - Butterflies? I'm not entirely sure.
  • 08 - Starry Sky of Small Desires

I've also looked at the .obs file, since it controls events and warps. However, there's no feasible way i'm deciphering that. It looks too complex for me to comprehend. Someone else might be able to understand it, but as it stands, I cannot.

Translation project / Translation of Trainer Class Names
« on: January 21, 2015, 06:24:24 AM »
We're still working on the project. We currently finished translating Puppet names on trainers (As mentioned before, those are handled differently than Wild Puppets for some weird reason). Right now we're translating the names and classes for each trainer. However, we've run into a minor snag.
Some of the trainer classes are rather... wordy, or awkward. For example, Yuugi's is "Spoken-of Superhuman Strength", Ran's is "Shikigami of Yakumo", Reimu's is "Shrine Maiden of Gensokyo". When read in game, it'd look like "Spoken-of Superhuman Strength Yuugi", "Shikigami of Yakumo Ran", "Shrine Maiden of Gensokyo Reimu". These would look weird, especially Ran - it'd give the impression that it's "Shikigami of Yakumo Ran" (Chen) as opposed to "Shikigami of Yakumo" Ran.
We've come to some solutions, but nothing we're really sold on. It'd be nice to get some feedback outside the direct translation team and chat on what looks better. This is the poll for the trainer classes. The poll will be run for 2 days, and ends on the 22nd. Whichever option has the most votes will be the option we run with.

From this moment on, we will no longer be posting complete rips of the uploaded dat files. There are several reasons for this, but the absolute largest one being: We will no longer endorse piracy of this game.

"Then why were you posting the rips before!"
Good question eventual asker! We uploaded the rips for the purpose of the translation project only. Right now they are being used to ensure people can play the game without buying the actual game, which is something we don't want going on. Not only that, but we do't want faulty and incomplete builds of the translations going around. We are adopting the policy of uploading only what needs to be translated here-on-out.

"But how are we supposed to buy the game, we weren't at Comiket!"
Another good question! Hemo and the FocasLens team made a statement several months ago, and followed through on it, that he would be releasing a digital download of the game. Recently that digital download came out and can be downloaded at Melonbooks here: From now on, this is how we suggest you obtain the game.

"But the website's in Japanese, how are we supposed to navigate it?"
One of us will be buying the game at some point in the future from this site, guaranteed. When we do, we will put up a tutorial on how to navigate the website and purchase this game, just for you all to read!

A guide has been put up by a member of the forum that walks you through how to purchase and setup the game via the digital download, the link can be found here

"Purchase? But that's not free! Why should I have to pay for this when you all were uploading it for free!"
I'll restate what I said above, the uploaded data files were for the purpose of the translation project. It also happened to be really convenient for us to obtain since the Digital download wasn't available yet. We had agreed at the very start that downloads would be pulled as soon as the digital download went live. We here in the community respect Hemo and his efforts, and we refuse to contribute to the piracy of his games here. A few new policies will be enacted here on this board.

  • First and foremost, we will no longer be informing you how to patch illegally obtained copies of the game. All patching threads are being removed from the forum.
  • Assets to get around the patching process will no longer be provided
  • In the same vein, we will not answer how to extract the arc files on the forum. It's rather simple to figure out, look around.
  • We will not answer questions on where to obtain illegal copies of the game. If you're really that desperate, there are methods to achieve your ends.
  • Posting links to illegal copies of the full game here will be deleted, if not grounds for immediate ban. Yes, this also includes Pre-Patched copies of the game.
Those are the new policies of this board. The translation team and several other members of the community have agreed on these rules. Follow them, and things will go over swell!

Translation project / Translated stuff for gn_dat3
« on: January 07, 2015, 06:30:47 PM »
So I did a quick compilation of the stuff I translated in gn_dat3. The stuff includes:
  • MapName.csv - this is used for where Puppets are caught. This can be up for debate if names are a bit egregiously long, however it will require modifying the maps themselves to rename them to make it consistent.
  • DollNameO.csv - this is used for when you select your Puppet at the start of the game. This is Finalized. Do not edit any further. Not up for debate.
  • DollNameO.csv - this is used for Puppet names in the wild. This is Finalized. Do not edit any further. Not up for debate.
  • MapToTownMapData.csv - I... actually don't remember what this changes. Fuck.
  • townMapData0-4.csv - These four files control how maps are named on the town map. Some of them go off the map screen but we can't really control that for some of them (Read: Hakurei Shrine)
  • Every file in here is the translated location names. These needed to be hex edited to be changed, and some of them were too long to literally translate (Read: {Cave of the} Mountain behind Hakurei Shrine)
  • ItemData.csv - Contains translated items and fixed up descriptions so they don't clip off the edge.

Translation project / Translation of the Town Map item
« on: January 05, 2015, 08:57:42 PM »
There seems to be a pretty hefty debate over the translation of the Town Map/Fly item. The options for the translation can be found at the strawpoll below.

Translation project / Statement of Affairs
« on: January 04, 2015, 08:15:40 PM »
So, the translation project is coming along rather well. The graphical assets, I suppose barring a few, are all translated. We have items translated as well as abilities - these will need some refining to make them respectful of their character limits. The server is currently working on modifying the skills file to respect the character limits. All in all, progress is progressing smoothly!

However, I've noticed some issues with the forum-side of affairs. While I'm not against the translating of the story-related events, the entire effort currently is a disjointed and disorganized mess. It would appear that people are scrambling to find out what they can contribute and translate, and the story thread is a mess. To this end, I should probably make a new thread for translating the story to try and get better organization going in there. Mark down who is translating what, since there is a lot to translate.

Aside from the story, several different people seem to be compiling and distributing the various translated assets and injecting them into their games. I do not suggest doing this, as we are still constantly updating stuff, and it'd be much better if we didn't have partial patches floating around. You're free to inject the stuff into your game, but do so privately and do not distribute it. It's much harder to contain issues and spread fixes if there's a million different incomplete builds floating around, and it gets even more problematic when Hemo releases new builds of the game, since we have to ensure that they work on newer builds first. Please understand that if your game breaks because of a hastily done translation compilation, we will not be able to assist you in fixing it.

If you have any questions, ANY at all, I highly suggest you come onto the Shoddy Server to get real-time answers. Someone is usually there at all times of the day, so your question should be answered relatively quickly. Not to mention it's where all the on-the-spot information for the translation patch is, so you'll be immediately informed on whats currently going on!

This thread is where translated graphics for the various interfaces go. If you have any finished graphics, please post them here and not elsewhere.
