Title: Touhoumon Blue - Zeph's Edited Version
Post by: ZephyrValgale on March 09, 2015, 11:25:51 PM
The following was copypasta'd from another forum:

Let me start by making one thing clear. I am not the original creator of this hack. As there is no way that I can see to get in touch with him, this was made without his permission. As such, while he no longer appears to be hacking and I don't foresee any problems arising, if he wants me to take this down, I will. As the creator has given me his blessing, this hack will not need to be removed.

That out of the way, let's start with the features of this hack over Vanilla Blue.

Current version: 1.3
Grab it here. (https://www.dropbox.com/s/5ozyvq0tq44xktr/THMN%20Blue%20-%20Zeph%27s%20Edits%20Zeph%20Gets%20Off%20His%20Ass%20and%20Gets%20Shit%20Done%20Release%20%28Balance%20Release%20the%20Second%29.zip?dl=0)
Original hack provided here, so as to not be a scumbag (https://www.dropbox.com/s/ord5h66zpvvwjfv/Touhoumon%20Blue%20Version.ips?dl=0)

Link's not working on my end. Can you post it elsewhere? Like on Mediafire?

I recommend finding somewhere to slip vanilla Blue version in as well, since it's fallen off the internet for the most part and only having a modified one floating around is really scummy.

I'd normally not be cool with the prospect of modifying another person's work so blatantly, but Blue said himself that he tends to fall off the face of the internet every now and then and then come back under a new name so even if he does come back I doubt he's going to claim ownership over it.

As there is no way that I can see to get in touch with him
hi

features
neato

I should see if I can find my old to-do list at you or something, since the main reason I gave up was being unable to code some asm stuff needed for me to feel like it was 'done.'

Also you have my blessings or whatever, idgaf what you do with the room. I don't even care if I'm credited or not.

The world works in mysterious ways.

Thanks for the blessing! Good to know that I can edit the disclaimer now. And sure, shoot me your to-do list. Just understand that I don't even know where to begin with writing ASM - everything added so far was written by someone else. All I did was compile and insert Darthatron's routine, and use an ips patch provided by Doesnt for implementing the split.

@Agastya: I see your point. Will add the original to a fileshare service soon.

@Lex: Yeah, perhaps I should have used a different filehost. I sometimes have issues w/ DB if I don't block it w/ noScript. Rectifying this now!EDIT: It wasn't an issue w/ Dropbox, it was me being a derp. Link Fixed!

Please do! And please give me some feedback about the curve (including suggestions for what level Koga should be) while you're at it.

Didn't get the chance to try it yet.

What I AM doing is posting the contents of the locations document for the original Blue here, since super helpful info is super helpful.

Link Fixed! (I took a stupid shortcut updating the link, and it evidently backfired. Mea maxima culpa.)

And regarding that encounter table, I'll edit it to reflect changes I've made to the mons you can find, and add it to the archive.

EDIT: Couldn't add it to the OP because character limits, but the archive has been updated.

So I did some re-balancing to make Koga less stupid. I also replaced one of Misty's mons.

Would have updated sooner, but PSO2.

Hey there, I'm new here.
It's nice to see you having added the Dark-Touhoumon into Blue like DCRumia, DCChen, DCMomiji etc..
I wanted to report though, that, unless you made it as an event, which I doubt, DCMomiji can NOT be caught in the wild.
Even checked the Tohodex, DCChen and DCRumia's locations are listed, DCMomiji's is not.
I might tell you more about it once I've progressed further, cool that you've picked it up and that Blue even said it was okay for you to edit his version.

Edit: Same with DCWriggle; the location is not listed in the Tohodex, gives me another ''AREA UNKNOWN''.

As far as I remember, DCMomiji is a (possibly) rare encounter at memorial pillar (five island)
I know DCSuika is also only available via event, but that one is in the maingame. (talk to bill/ZUN with the sake to receive it)

Hmm, I'm not that far yet.
Currently on the route left from Lavender Town (skipped 2nd and 3rd badge, just because).
Why are, despite the physical/special split patch applied, moves like ''Thunder Wave'' or ''Confusion'' labeled falsely as physical moves?
I've just checked my entire team and all attacks of all of them have their attacks listed as ''physical'', even though there are attacks under them that are definitely of special nature.

For reference, my current Team:

CIku
Lvl: 21
Attacks: Shock Wave
              Thunder Wave
              Twister
              Spark

CSatori:
Lvl: 21
Attacks: Counter
              Mirror Coat
              Mimic
              Snatch

Reimu:
Lvl: 27
Attacks: Razor Wind
              Miko Charity
              Seal Needle
              Jump Kick

CReisen:
Lvl: 20
Attacks: Pound
              Double Team
              Confusion
              Confuse Ray

Fairy:
Lvl: 21
Attacks: Tackle
              Helping Hand
              Barrage
                   -

DCRumia:
Lvl: 20
Attacks: Bite
              Confusion
              Astonish
              Shadow Punch

... wait.
I just checked, and there seems to be a bug present in the physical/special split.
Apparently, when you check the moves outside of a battle, the moves are listed properly with their respective attributes.
Now if you are in a Trainer battle (and possible in a battle fighting wild Touhoumon as well) and check the attributes, ALL OF THEM appear to be of physical nature, even moves like Confusion, which are to 100% a special attack move.
I also noticed that the icons for physical/special attibutes, when switching in the menu to them, are being show slightly faster before the page actually moved to the description page of your attacks, but there is a good chance that this is just my laggy PC. :P

The issue about the physical/special attributes not being reflected properly during battle is still a thing though.

Edit: Oh, and aside from that, it would be cool if you could make sprites that are apparently flying actually hover in mid-air, like CTokiko or CRumia, for example.

Edit 2: Well, I just checked my box, and there, status moves and special moves are listed as physical moves as well (looked them up in the Pokemon Center in the town where Misty is.)
Going out of the box menu and checking the attacks of my current results in special/status attacks being mislabeled as physical moves as well, so it's not just limited to in-battle checking the stats and stuff.
Once I'm out of the Pokemon Center and check the status, it is normal again and the moves are being labeled properly again.
As soon as I enter the Pokemon Center, even checking my own team and not just the boxed Touhoumon, all attacks are being labeled as being physical again - what the heck?

Edit 3: Alright, why is it that I can't teach my Satori ''Counter'', if it knew ''Counter'' when I caught it as a CSatori?
Was this intended? It still seems rather weird that I can't teach it ''Counter'' from that guy in the Celadon City market.
Title: Re: Touhoumon Blue - Zeph's Edited Version

Oh, and regarding DCSuika, you can also catch her in the oni tunnel.
DCWriggle, DCMomiji and DCPatchy give me an ''AREA UNKNOWN'' whatsoever.
So, even there are event Touhoumon that can be freely caught... there was a missing dot in that DCSuika event though, as well as in her description in the Touhoudex.

Edit: On level 24, DCRumia learns ''Destiny Bond'', but a few DCRumia's from the Team Rocket grunts have this attack already even before they have reached level 24. Was this intended? Is it possible to get ''Destiny Bond'' as an egg move?
Because, if that's the case, then it would make sense, but I think the moveset of these enemies should be revised, if it's in theory not possible to use a move you couldn't have learned at that point - this should apply for enemies as well.

Edit 2: When catching a CAReisen, there is no description in the entry of the Touhoudex. I'm not sure if this puppet falls under this as well, but I know that there are numerous puppets that have no description, not even in the puppet list hosted in this forum here.
I was actually wondering what one could add to these entries, but I don't know enough about Touhou in general to come up with anything good.

Edit 3: Revising the probality to catch a CUnzan would be nice; even when throwing a bait, it instantly runs away - after using savestates.
When throwing a Safari Orb, the ball doesn't even move one bit - CUnzan escapes right away, and that after continuously reloading a savestate for like ten minutes.
Maybe making it more fair would do the trick.

Also, going down from Fuchsia City to the Undersea Cave, you can see some cut-off.
Well, to be more precise, go down when coming out of the warde house (the one with that bolder in the house that you can move via Strength), you can see the cave being cut off.

You can also use the bycycle in the house of the Move Deleter in Fuchsia City - I doubt this was intended.

And last, but not least, some of the NPC's in the Safari Zone have some typos.

Must have screwed something up when I compiled Darthatron's routine. I'll see if I can reproduce the bug.

I'll take care of the jarring sprite issues, too.

Okay, occurring in more than one place is bad. What's worse is that I have no idea what would cause this. I'll check on my end. Hopefully, it's just you and not the icons routine glitching out. I'll test to make sure the split actually works in spite of the glitchy icons - if the actual split works, I'll probably just label it a feature and move on to more important stuff.

THAT... was an oversight on the part of the original hacker - not my fault.

I know you can catch her there - I moved her to that location. What did ZUN give you after giving him the Sake?

Guess I'll have to go in and edit Rocket mons. DCRumia doesn't get egg moves on the grounds you can't breed for one.

Feature of the original hack that's not getting changed. This is a rebalance with some future soundtrack edits, not a full fluff-fest. Maybe, at the very end, I'll go in and add fluff to the dex, but for now, it stays as is.

Alright, I'll take a look at that.

Might deal with that cutoff, might not. I can't map worth salt.

I want to make sure my ZUN script is properly edited before I go messing with other scripts.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll get right on to making the edits as soon as PSO2 releases my soul immediately!

EDIT: Apparently, I used an old, buggy version of the icon routine. Whoops. Fixing now.

EDIT 2: Fixed the routine. Also, edited the OP to make it easier to see when I update.

Don't mention it Zeph, you're welcome. :)
I'm just glad people start making Touhoumon hacks again.
Hope someone will improve on World Link/Another World at a point, the glitches make these games literally unplayable to enjoy it properly. :/

Anyways, regarding what Bill/ZUN gave me when I gave him the Sake, I received a DCSuika on level 25 that knows the attacks Minimize, Thunderpunch, Mega Punch and Take Down.
These attacks are not exactly what your regular DCSuika would know when catching it in the wild, so I guess it was intended.
I just find it weird that there is an event for a puppet that you can perfectly catch in the wild, but oh well, I just thought I would point it out. :o

Also, there was something bugging me for quite a while now, in various Touhoumon hacks in general.
The front sprite of CFlandre has a sprite error;she's holding onto her tail, yet the tip of the tail itself has some black/grey  (depending on how one would shade it) missing in it.
Have you ever played Touhoumon Insane, for example and battled a cMarisa, or chose CMarisa as a starter and checked her stats?
She has a black dot in the lower-right corner that would always keep jumping with her, it was painfully annoying for me personally to watch this, for example. >_>
Well, I'm having an eye for details, though I'm not necessarily expecting you now to fix up sprites, but since you said that you will be taking a look into the sprites that are flying to be represented as flying puppets properly... well, I'd appreciate it if you would fix up CFlandre's front sprite as well. :)
See attachment for a screenshot showing you exactly what I mean.

Please don't forget to take a look into CSatori/Satori being able to learn ''Counter'' from that guy at the Celadon City market as well.
I mean, I know that it's just nitpicky making it possible to teach a puppet an attack it can already learn/relearn via that move relearner guy, but it would in itself make sense for her to be able to learn this attack by other means than level up; same goes for mirror coat, but if I remember correctly, there is no TM nor person in-game that could teach it to her, so if it's just availble through level-up, people wouldn't even notice that it can't be taught via TM's.

By the way, how does breeding work?
I was actually always confused with what can breed which Touhoumon, including incenses that will result in getting different puppets, when giving it as a hold item and then depositing your puppets in the pension.
What can breed how?
How do egg moves work?
Though this isn't really THAT important, I guess.
As long as it's perfectly possible to get your hands on all puppets at a point, I guess there isn't much to complain about.
So far, I'm enjoying playing the edited version of Touhoumon Blue, but I've taken a break from it around the time I posted here the last time.

Will be looking forward further updates of yours, keep up the good work. :)

Edit: Reading through the ''Wilds'' ReadMe, it says that CUnzan can't be caught in the eastern, but in the western district of the Safari Zone.
I know for sure that I encountered that CUnzan in the east district whatsoever.
Not sure if CUnzan can be caught in the west as well, but I never encountered a CNamazu in the east area of the Safari Zone - did you mix up the two, or did I simply not happen to run into a CUnzan in the west and a CNamazu in the east area and therefore think that you mixed the locations of where to encounter CUnzan and CNamazu in the Safari Zone?
Correct me if I'm wrong, it's not like I properly chekced in-game, I just noticed it while reading through your documents.

Actually, the CFlandre thing is not a bug. That's actually her spear, and it's supposed to have holes in it.

@Zak-something

I didn't know that.
Is the link you've posted official artwork?
Because, I always thought it was weird that she had holes in that thing, always thought it was some sort of tail, or something.
But assuming the link you provided is official artwork, wouldn't it make more sense to make two circular holes at both ends?
We just see the front side of her spear anyways, but it should reflect properly in that sprite, in my opinion.
As much as I like Touhoumon, some sprites look like utter shit - this one here not, but if I think back to the very first Touhoumon sprites, the chibi forms looked like they had a tumor in their head. :P

Anyways, thanks for the clarification.

This is her official artwork, but my brain fails thinking about how you could think that this is a tail.

Dunno, probably got inspired from To Love Ru.

The fun thing is, I never even watched the show and actually heard lots of bad things about it.
But even now, I see a certain resemblance of her weapon and their tails.
Not that it matters anyways, I just think they look alike.

Speaking of really weird things, I'm thinkin' of doing another one of my "nuzlockes disguised as bugfixing sessions" runs of this, and I remember three little nitpicks I had about blue from playing the old version...

One: The BST's are really inconsistent. I fully admit that I'm a little spoiled from 1.8 and tweaked to a lesser extent But I remember a few puppets having absurdly high or low stats in comparison to the official hacks, such as the light fairies having higher BST's compared to sanae or reisen (forget which, but it was something like 530 to 520)

Two: Did elis's gender rate get changed? from what I remember in my old playthrough it still had Togepi's 87% male ratio. :v

And finally, this one is really nitpicky, but why is patchouli normal-typed again? She's reason in every other touhoumon game and it really does make sense for her to be at least part psychic-typed.

Is there a good physical and a good special move for every type? I haven't seen if there's any physical fire move stronger than Fire Punch (which several fire types don't learn)...

EDIT: There's also a few Puppets I find to be horrible in performance that should be buffed:

Ex Shizuha/Ex Lunachild: Both of them want to be special attackers, but none of them have any reliable coverage. Shizuha has a handful of support options, but Minoriko can do it better due to better bulk and access to Heal Bell. All Shizuha has is trap passing, but she's too frail to reliably pull it off.

Ex Kisume: A physical wall crippled by the Fire Type. It leaves her with extra ground and rock weaknesses and she has no fire move stronger than Ember.

Tewi (L): Basically a false option - terribly weak and outclassed by EX Tewi.

EX Satori: Snatch is a nice idea for keeping the opponent from setting up on her, but she can't do anything with boosts she steals from others. Also, her only option for hitting switch-ins is Struggle.

Mimi-Chan/Ruukoto: Their movepool is too narrow for them to function in any team. Mimi-Chan lacks a good STAB option (Flame Wheel is rather weak) and Ruukoto is basically a weak Mimi-Chan with Encore.

EX Yuki: Not a bad fire-type, but both Utsuho and Flandre are more dangerous.

EX Orange: Fully invested, her attack power is only equal to base 89. She's also too weak to status to function as a tank.

That's the major ones, a few other puppets might have become gimped by the Phys/Spec split, so I haven't counted all.
Title: Re: Touhoumon Blue - Zeph's Edited Version
Post by: ZephyrValgale on August 07, 2015, 01:36:07 AM
I'll have to take a look. One more thing on the to-do list, along with "Make sure the Legendary Events work," and "See what Puppet ZUN gives you."

Ex Shizuha: I'll see what I have for special Ground moves - probably Mud Bomb. Maybe Blizzard, for those pesky birds? It would be thematically appropriate, what with Shizuha being a goddess of Autumn. First frost is usually late Autumn.

Ex Lunachild: Maybe I could take a leaf from 1.8 and make Nature Power into an offensive Grass type move. It'd help deal with the Chens and Yuugis of the nonexistent meta...

Tewi (L): Make her into a good Baton Passer? IDK.

Ex Satori: Give her coverage, and she should be good. Maybe give the Watatsukis a movepool, and foist Sketch onto her?

Mimi-Chan: This ICBM is getting Sacred Fire. It might be renamed to Blaze Strike, or something, but it'll have Sacred Fire.

Ruukoto: Change her to pure Steel, give her Battle Armor, and make her a tank. Give her an alternate form with Wonder Guard, absurd Attack, Sp. Attack, and Speed stats, and a Dark/Psychic typing. It would, of course, be called DLwRuukoto.

Ex Yuki: I'll give her a Psychic subtype and work my way from there. I'm, otherwise, drawing a blank.

Ex Orange: Again, drawing a blank. Attack buff, HP nerf, give it the option of Guts or Immunity?

Thanks for informing me! I'll get on this as soon as I find my USB->SD adapter. My new machine doesn't have an SD card slot like my old one, and I keep my hacking stuff on an SD card. Worst case, I have to transfer it to my External.

EDIT: I'll also take a look at BSTs in general. See what could use a buff. Patchy's probably gonna stay Normal-type, though. She's an elementalist, not a psychic, for one. For another, she's frail. It'd make more sense if a punch crippled her than if she resisted a punch, in my mind.

I see. As for the buffs, might I mention some opinions on everything...
Is there a good physical and a good special move for every type? I haven't seen if there's any physical fire move stronger than Fire Punch (which several fire types don't learn)...
Flare blitz?

EDIT: There's also a few Puppets I find to be horrible in performance that should be buffed:

Ex Shizuha/Ex Lunachild: Both of them want to be special attackers, but none of them have any reliable coverage. Shizuha has a handful of support options, but Minoriko can do it better due to better bulk and access to Heal Bell. All Shizuha has is trap passing, but she's too frail to reliably pull it off.
Lunachild is a moon fairy- so possibly some dark-based moves? With star getting ice and sunny getting nature as coverage. I do like the ice moves on shizuha option, as silly as that sounds.

Ex Kisume: A physical wall crippled by the Fire Type. It leaves her with extra ground and rock weaknesses and she has no fire move stronger than Ember.
That fire typing's a lot more useful in 1.8, but not having access to anything stronger then ember was a really dumb thing I remember from my run.

Tewi (L): Basically a false option - terribly weak and outclassed by EX Tewi.
I forget if this was an intentional joke puppet or not, but... I guess BP would push her from being 100% useless to uh... not completely useless? but yeah, probably an intentional joke puppet like Reisen II is in 1.8.

EX Satori: Snatch is a nice idea for keeping the opponent from setting up on her, but she can't do anything with boosts she steals from others. Also, her only option for hitting switch-ins is Struggle.
ExSatori is basically wobb in 1.8, isn't she? Wobb itself generally isn't very good in-game,  unless you KNOW something has an all-physical or all-special moveset (like patchy) I could see giving it some STAB but other then that I wouldn't change it too much from being wobb. Worth noting that 1.8 also gives it a transform clone to work with.

Mimi-Chan/Ruukoto: Their movepool is too narrow for them to function in any team. Mimi-Chan lacks a good STAB option (Flame Wheel is rather weak) and Ruukoto is basically a weak Mimi-Chan with Encore.
Didn't use these ones, no comment on ruukoto, although mimi-chan in 1.8 is a harsh abuser of recoil moves + rock head, so exploit that possibly?

EX Yuki: Not a bad fire-type, but both Utsuho and Flandre are more dangerous.
In 1.8, yuki's main claim to fame is generally eruption. I dunno who gets that besides mokou, but that's certainly a reason to use her over flan/utsuho (she also has belly drum for another, much more risky option)

EX Orange: Fully invested, her attack power is only equal to base 89. She's also too weak to status to function as a tank.
I forget what her defenses are but if her defenses resemble anything like they do in 1.8, she's a VERY good physical tank, even if her typing leaves a bit to be desired. I'd say give her seismic toss if she dosen't already, although giving her immunity would also be cool.

That's the major ones, a few other puppets might have become gimped by the Phys/Spec split, so I haven't counted all.
...
Overall general thoughts, and I can see that on patchy then. Don't have anything specific to point out at the moment besides that, though.

EX Satori would probably be good with either Mean Look or a variant or Baton Pass - hopefully not both.

Here's a few non-puppet related concerns:

-Morning Sun is still a Status move, which means it doesn't scale to offensive stats.
-The strongest physical Fire move is Fire Punch, the strongest special Dark move is Black Wind, the strongest physical Ghost move is Shadow Punch.
-Generally, there's too many instances of being forced to run a 70 BP move with a stupid hax effect - suggested changes, AP clone or otherwise:

Outrage: 120 BP, physical, Dragon, 20 PP, locked in for 2-3 turns, confused afterwards
Undying Flame: 75 BP, special, Fire, 10 PP, user heals 50% of damage dealt
Black Wind: 90 BP, special, Dark, 15 PP, 10% to lower Special Attack
White Wings: 85 BP, special, Flying, 5 PP, 100% to lower Attack
Miracle Wind: no changes - that effect is kinda signature to Sanae
Ancient Power: 80 BP, special, Rock, 10 PP, 20% to raise user's Defense
Prism Live: 100 BP, physical, Ghost, 5 PP, high crit ratio

Lastly, some of the signature moves could be given to new lines (using World Link's list, so some of these might have the move already and others might not be in the game):

Miko Charity: Renamed to Coin Offer; Komachi
Intuition: Hatate, Meiling, Sara, Elly, Kotohime
PWJ Needle: Ran, Yukari
Focus Flight: Marisa, Sakuya, Youmu, Reisen, Sanae, Yukari, Yuyuko, Remilia, Alice
Flying Miko: Sanae, Byakuren
Blazing Star: Mimi-Chan, Iku, Kanako
Dragon Meteor: Iku, Meiling, Flandre
Master Spark: Yuka, Mima, Gengetsu
Icicle Fall: Letty, Daiyousei
Last Stand: Sara, Elly, Ichirin
Five Elements: Marisa, Satori
Puppet Strings: Yamame, Medicine
Doll Set+Related moves: Tenshi, Reimu, Nazrin

And so on, there's many useful attacking/support moves that are hogged by certain lines...

I started to play your version of Touhoumon Blue recently again, and noticed something minor (the previous comments of other users here are much more valuable imo).

The move description of ''Black Wind'' says ''Eliminates all stat changes among all Touhou engaged in battle.''

But when using this attack in battle, it has a slight chance of boosting all your stats, except for accuracy and evasion.
I guess it's a custom move that uses ''Ancient Power'' as a base while its appearance looks like using ''Haze''.
In case that it actually DOES eliminate all kinds of stat changes, it seems rather redundant that it is also boosting your stats, while at the same time removing any positive and negative status conditions.

I'm fairly positive that it is just a wrong description for this move for DRumia to use (and maybe other Touhoumon that can learn this move).
Thought I'd point it out regardless.

Sooo, did anyone miss me?

*crickets chirp*

...Yeah, I know it's been a couple years since the last update, and I'm sorry for that. But anyway, I finally got around to implementing the balance changes you guys suggested, so go ahead and give 1.3 a shot.

I did.
To be honest, I was about to contact you about your blog, but then never got around to it, because I'm a lazy butt.

Nice to see an update.
When 1.2 came out, I recommended someone your version for a potential futue Let's Play project, but suggested waiting for the next major update. Glad that finally happened after so long, already talked to that guy and he said he's still interested.

Now, where the ZUN script has been fixed, is there another way to get DCSuikas?
And will you in the next update getting around to fix that overlook about Satori line not being able to learn Counter, fixing sprites, that have no shadowing, despite hovering in mid-air, and revising the catch rate for CUnzan?
There was more, but to be honest, these are pretty much the only gripes I have with this hack at this point, and really, all I'm pointing out her is nitty-gritty stuff.

I'm looking forward future updates of yours, glad someone still bothers to create Touhoumon hacks. :)

Just wanted to say thanks for the update and that I appreciate it!  Initially I was logging in to this forum again just to say that but it is true that I ended up posting something else first.

After seeing this update I decided to finally give this game a shot and so far it has been a wild ride.  When I caught a CUtsuho I thought the game was going to be easy from then on but so far it is really really not.  To be fair though, I have two fire types, an electric type, and a puppet that doesn't focus much on offensive capabilities, and I have not passed Mt. Moon yet.  Here is my current team:

I will probably replace Marisa with Koishi eventually when I manage to find one wherever they are (Chireiden is the best!), and I typically keep one or two spots open for HM slaves.

I wonder where this journey will take me from here.  Once I manage to beat Brock and pass Mt. Moon, I suspect things will get easier for me because then rock and ground types will be less prevalent and I will be stronger.  But looking at how crazy this game has been so far, who really knows!

Okay, i was thinking about it for a while and i think that there's one huge balancing issue in Touhoumon Blue. Namely easly obtainable, reusable and way too abusable Baton Pass. There's literaly nothing stoping players from breaking the game with Marisa/Aya + SubCM Alice for example.

Either BPass TM should be replaced by something or moved into very late game, and definitively not being purchasable in any shop. Right now any sense of challenge disappears after stepping into Celadon Dept. Store.

playing this and its just as much fun as the first go around years ago!

quick q, are the Dark/Rocket forms still available? them not having a dex entry leads me to believe no, but I remember one or two were missable so I'm afraid to continue much farther without knowing.

Also currently bug testing playing myself and I'll save most of my comments for the end but I ran into an issue that should probably be answered now: What does the miracle mallet do? I'm assuming it does something when sukuna holds it, but the text is glitched (CARE service.) so I'm not sure what.
Aside from that I'm curious if you drew the new sprites themselves because most of them are pretty solid (even while looking for sprites for a personal project I wasn't able to find a good chibi of sumereko)

They're still available. If you gun straight for the elite four after Giovanni instead of doing sevii islands at some point it should be possible to miss one of them. Good luck actually beating the e4 like that though you'll be 20 levels below them.

They'll get stuff back when the first dlc patch gets finished.

oh hey someone using something i made as an avatar

Ah, good catch. It increases her special stats.

Yes, I made the sprites myself. Mostly with a laptop touchpad in paint. I eventually switched to a mouse.

okay have to reset my computer for something so I'll post what concerns I have as of now (up to victory road/E4 grinding)
Spoiler
Before I start, I'm Gonna leave out any comments I have about "jank" (encounters, stats, types, signature moves) since that's a part of 1.5's charm
Actually I do have one comment along those lines. There's a LOT of psychic and normal types among the new characters, could probably diversify that a little bit? (Sukuna and kokoro becoming steel-types, for example)
No physical/special split? Dunno how much of a revamp this would require. (I forget if you mention its not in at any point but might be a good idea if you don't implement it)
Trades are still unedited from vanilla FR.
Do the different fairies have different stats or are they just good for collection/evolution? I'm assuming the latter going by their slot and the comments
Level guide would be nice? Not required but nice. I'm making one on my own accord that I'll probably post when I'm fully done.
Move tutors are still around, dunno if you changed the vanilla learnsets or not.
Tooltip on the miracle mallet is messed up (Already clarified)
Evs being removed might be a bit too strict for normal mode, no healing items/forced set might be enough as it is for a lot of people. I can see no evs being a thing on hard/lunatic though.
Zun still says he gives out a DCSuika instead of a kasen and then gives you a regular CSuika. (Kasen is instead obtained in silph in place of lapras)
Super rod guy gives out the great rod, meaning the super rod's normally unobtainable (I fixed this in my own copy)
415 BST on EKyouko? (not counting this as jank since I'm not sure she's supposed to be that low)
CSekibanki/Sekibanki are two different EXP pools from ExSekibanki (medium fast to medium slow)
The items in underwater tunnel regenerate (I forget if this was a thing with older versions of blue as well)
Are last stand and bravado the same move?
Second-to-last rival fight on route 22 is about 5 levels lower than it should be (giovanni's ace is 59 while rival's is 55)
Is there a reward for beating getting both sevii gems? It seems like there's a postgame thing with bill that looks like it would be a good reward
Title: Re: Touhoumon Blue - Zeph's Edited Version
Post by: Neotornado on June 05, 2019, 03:42:52 AM
Normally I wouldn't double post but this mechanic I found's pretty major.
If you finish the sevii islands quest with the ruby/sapphire, the E4 WILL use their postgame teams, even if you haven't beaten them normally. I don't know if this was intended but still worth it to point out (Level 65 on the champ's ace for pre-sevii E4 vs. level 64 on lorelei's weakest puppet on the post-sevii team)

hooray I finally have internet back and can comment on this line by line

Spoiler
I'm curious what jank you're referring to.
Kokoro can't be a steel type because then she'd be steel/ghost which would horn in on Youmu and Youki's niche. Psysteel would horn in on Keine and Eiki. Besides that, steel's the third most common after I think psychic and ghost, so adding more steel would just shift the problem around instead of really fixing it. Minimize is normal type therefore Sukuna is normal-type.

No physical/special split. If such a thing were to be implemented, all I would do with it would change a handful of moves like thunderpunch and blaze kick into physical. There's a number of things balanced around the idea of a lack of a split, such as Rumia choosing between STAB and her massive ATK stat instead of getting both.

Yeah I should probably edit trades someday but last I heard they crashed the game for some unknown reason. I guess I'll add removal or correction of trades to the 1.00 todo list.

Fairies are unown. It's 28 sprites sitting on the same palette and data slot. Just like in normal FireRed there's no reward for catching all forms. They're there because I like fairies.

Level guide would be superfluous and counterproductive to my intent with the hack. When someone plays this for the first time, they do things in the order they're familiar with: Pewter, Cerulean, so on and so forth. Much of this hack is built around that idea and plays with that idea by presenting familiar challenges at familiar points, such as Misty packing a Water/other evolved mon with a self-healing move and a secondary stab that's hard to defend against. During this first playthrough, provided the player does things in that order, fights every trainer along the way, and sticks with a team of 6, (the single most common style of first playthrough) they will always be at the level the area is designed around. It's usually not until the second playthrough that they start doing things like trying to get surf for Brock, and by then they already have a decent idea of what level they need to be when. Providing them that additional information about levels would encourage players to do specific things at specific levels because they know they are able to when they normally wouldn't out of a sense of unfamiliarity and trepidation.

Move tutors are there and edited.

Still haven't fixed that lol, maybe in another week I'll be able to.

Frankly I considered removing EVs from easymode. I could go on another long autistic rant but I'm not gonna. I find EVs to be one of the worst ideas in a series whose ideas I mostly despise.

oops, forgot to update the bufferpokemon value

Not a bug! The dialog is just wrong because I'm an idiot. Super Rod and Good Rod have had their locations changed because there's absolutely no reason to make the best rod available near the start and the second best rod available at the second furthest point from the start.

oops

whoopsie

d'oh

yes

This is intentional! It'll make more sense and have more things to it come 0.99 where the game tracks the rival's progress through the gyms instead of listing every gym as something he beat by default. His dialog also should have changed a bit to reflect something.

yeah the reward is that you can trade with 2humon purple and laugh as everything explodes to death from glitches and desynchronization

There is no* postgame, you're right that I accidentally typed an 0x2 instead of an 0x3 somewhere and the champ's using the wrong team.
*you can refight the gym leaders i guess that's a postgame but there's no reward

About that, I actually figured it was progression-based (as in you'd get the Old-Good-Super by talking to them in order) ans went to talk to the Guru south of Lavender but only got another Good Rod / Nothing. unless its supposed to be somewhere different entirely, in which case idk.

Okay...40 hours later, here are some things to report:

I think the Undersea Cave is missing some maps: Looking in AdvanceMap and there's some maps present, they WERE present in older versions, but they're not here and appear to be the only location of DCRumia.

Also, the waterfall in Undersea Cave crashes unless I use it from the menu,

I cannot find DCRemilia or DCYuuka on any map.

The floor of the ghost tower where you fight your rival has Sweet Scent encounters, but nothing of value...?

I kinda miss Pyonta from the old versions; Now we're back down to like three bug families.

DCRumia is found on the bottom-most floor of Mt Moon (same as original) as a VERY rare encounter.

DCRemilia is in Altering Cave, swapping spots with a different dark puppet (I think DCWriggle). I'm actually still trying to find DCYuuka.

I think the original intent was for that to be where you found Youki (as opposed to the typical "rarest goast top floor" every other hack goes with) but then I happened into him the floor just above.

Question about the EV-less mode, do the evolution requirements for the ATK/DEF evolutions change or is Margatroid pretty much impossible to obtain via evolution outside of some really trashy IV rolls?

EDIT: Interacting with any waterfall (with the Waterfall HM usable) brings up a glitched shop menu which either immediately fades to black indefinitely or opens a shop that sells an absurd amount of Sake with some random items peppered in (Various Orbs, Scarfs, and dummy ???????? items). Using Waterfall manually via the menu works as normal.

i'm not 100% sure on the timing (I think its when ZUN is waiting to take you to the Sevii islands?) but when you go to ZUN's house there's an entrance in the back, one tile of grass will trigger a scripted battle against her. its a one off encounter
