: New Puppets Locations? And other stuff.
: KuroShinki March 20, 2016, 09:41:54 PM
So, today I FINALLY decided to really start playing the expansion after months of starting and dropping it because of other things.

One thing is bugging me tough: what are the locations of the new puppets?

Also: are the other puppets locations changed? So far I'm in Myouran Temple, and didn't notice any changes. I presume that with new areas, something was changed in the wilds as well.

Last thing: is it me or the game is much easier compared to the base game? Or the levels are more balanced, without going sky-rocket...or I guess this was done because of new areas/quests.

Another thing unrelated: How cute are the puppets when they are following you? :3

EDIT: Fixed the title of the topic and fixed the post.

New puppets:
Sumireko can be found in Route 5 (or the path to the left of Human Village)
All other new puppets can be found concentrated in one place, the Dream World. You access it by going to the bamboo forest cut area and rest in the shack with a specific item.
Aside from the above, Seiran and Ringo can be found in Moriya Shrine (need confirm)

There are new locations: Sanzu River, Divine Spirit Mausoleum, Netherworld, and Heaven. There may be alterations to the types of puppet showing up, but it's still largely the same.

Easier? Well, for one thing, Team 9 is easier in levels. But then you'll face Miko with puppets that are slightly higher than yours and having Up Tempo (Speed Boost). And then there's the postgame...

For puppets that are following us, it's just their field sprite, like the ones you see when meeting puppets for the first time, so no. They can produce emotes when you talk to them though.

Can confirm Seiran and Ringo being behind the Moriya Shrine. I caught a Ringo there my first time through the game.

Also, there are some minor differences with wild puppets and locations, though nothing major. Early game, you can find Lily White on Route 1, and you can find Raiko on the road to the Myouren Temple. Not to mention the hidden puppets in conspicuous barrels, pots, and wells that can't naturally be found that early. Also, once you get Nitori's boat you can go back to the Hakurei Shrine to access a grassy patch found there to get Reimu and such earlier on than usual.

That's everything I can think of for now.

Thanks for your answers!

I noticed also Yuyuko and Youmu in Moriya Temple, and they weren't there in vanilla IIRC.

I found Wriggle in a barrel as well.

Is the Dream World a post-game only thing? I would like to test them before that, even if reincarnation can't be used untill post game.

And a new view on the difficulty: I just fought Reimu and...completely destroyed her XD Aya didn't have Salvo...so I guess later Aya does have Salvo? I remember that every encounter with Reimu was a nightmare...and Agreed with Team 9: they are weaker compared to base game. About Miko: I assume there is going to be a rematch, because in the Mausoleum she was a cakewalk.

I'll just spoiler myself a little: are the final bosses unchanged? Stronger? Weaker? Because The very last one used to be a pain...

Dream world is accessible as soon as you get the Cut Woodcutter Doll, and have a Butterfly Dream Pill on you, which you should have picked up at least one beforehand. (Not sure where...) You can also get more by buying them from Reisen at the Human Village.

Got it, thanks!

Miko is actually a Wake Up Call Boss. Without a fast puppet, you're guaranteed to be beaten.

She has no rematches iirc.
: Re: New Puppets Locations? And other stuff.
: KuroShinki March 22, 2016, 10:16:51 PM
I must be misunderstanding then...

I fought Toyosatomimi no Miko in the Mausoleum, and beat her easily. Then, she gave me one of the books I have to fetch for Kosuzu (I guess, I can't read Japanese).

So I guess I will fight Miko again with her uber team.

Want me to spoil it for you? : )
: Re: New Puppets Locations? And other stuff.

Go ahead, I can't read japanese (well, some kana) and I'm not understanding the story anyway.

It's better to be ready for sudden difficulty spikes :D

Also, I'm at Entei, with Puppets from LV 28 to 30, so I guess I'm far from that.

EDIT: Just to remain on Topic of my original question, I just found the Dream World :) Wandered around a little, got kicked by every unique NPC there, and caught a some puppets. I'm missing Junko (I've seen her) and Hecatia, but I've run out of threads. And now I can't go back in >_<

Also, I need to read about the last Touhou game, because...Who are they? More Lunarians? I see a lot of Tewi V2 and Reisen V2, along with good old Kotohime and Toyohime.

About the Dream World: You can go to Human Village and find Udonge under a farmer's hat. She sells you items that allows you to access the Dream World when you sleep in certain shacks.

Junko and Hecatia are the rare encounters, and Hecatia is very rare based on the info I gathered. Good luck.

Sweet, thanks!

It should also be noted that Toyohime and Yorihime are no longer in the secret area of the Bamboo Forest and instead are now in the Moon Capital. You need to go into the Dream World and fight Doremy and she'll give you temporary access to the Moon Capital. If anyone in the Moon Capital spots you or you run out of time you get shunted back to the Dream World and have to go back into the Moon Capital to keep trying to find whatever you are looking for.
: Re: New Puppets Locations? And other stuff.
: KuroShinki March 25, 2016, 09:45:18 AM
Yeah, I found them both as NPCs: are their puppets version there as well?
: Re: New Puppets Locations? And other stuff.
: Spar March 25, 2016, 09:29:12 PM
Yes, they are found in that area. They are very rare to appear.

That really helps, thank you!

PS: Just beat Yukari. If you are new to the expansion and are going against Satori, ForTheLoveOfYukariYakumo bring only 1 puppet, and make sure she can one-shot even herself.
: Re: New Puppets Locations? And other stuff.
: Spar March 27, 2016, 11:59:26 AM
I'd personally advise against using a single puppet against Satori as you can get a lot of exp by sweeping your own team. And if you have trouble with it then simply use mostly low level puppets and a single strong illusion or nether type (or really anything with a typing that is super effective against itself). That way you can still capitalize on the exp gain.
: Re: New Puppets Locations? And other stuff.
: KuroShinki March 27, 2016, 01:09:20 PM
Dunno, went full team and got wiped. Went with only my Shinki and won the 2nd time (first time she got a critical...).

Also, beat the game. Shinki was a total pushover compared to base game...

How do I access reincarnation? Already got the Rainbow Stone, but I don't see the doll that allows me to do that. I guess it was changed in YnK?
: Re: New Puppets Locations? And other stuff.
: Spar March 27, 2016, 11:15:33 PM
I guess it would depend on your team composition. Youmu was my starter and my lead puppet at the time (she was a couple levels ahead of the rest of my team so I always opened up with her in boss fights), and she could easily out speed and one shot my team (Remilia, Flandre, Nue, Suwako, Tenshi).

I felt Shinki was a pushover in the base game too, but that might be team composition again.

And reincarnation should be available instantly... If I could read kanji I'd ask you to get a screenshot of what Patchouli says in post game instead.
: Re: New Puppets Locations? And other stuff.
: KuroShinki March 27, 2016, 11:35:28 PM
I had this team, with average of LV 75:

Power Shinki (starter), Power Kokoro, Extra Benben, Power Yuyuko, Assist Chen and Defense Keine. What I really liked about my team is that it wasn't my favorites: I wanted to look for puppets with good ranks (i.e. the letters near the stats), so it was very funny to build a balanced team. My biggest surprises were Benben and Yuyuko: Extra Benben is a beast: almost nothing can take her down. And Power Yuyuko? A troll machine with her "HP Drain" move! Long story short: if I have to restart the game, I'll be glad to use this method again.

Anyway, found reincarnation: you HAVE to beat Flandre in the basement. It's a battle versus 4 team of 3 puppets each, without rest: sounds hard, but it really isn't. Well, for me it wasn't at least. I've checked this on the Japanese wiki, and this info is nowhere to be found on the site, so I would like to share this for new players.

Maybe one day I'll do a full playthrough...
