: Sprites on the wiki
: EXSariel January 03, 2015, 06:54:32 AM
So I had this idea about taking the sprite sheets extracted from the game and making gifs out of them. I also had this idea of uploading them onto the wiki for use in the puppet pages. Does this sound like a good idea?

It's quite an undertaking, to be sure, but I believe I can devise a method of making it quick and possibly painless. It'll still take a long while, but it's worth considering. If I go ahead with it, what direction should they be facing? What animation? These are probably obvious questions but I feel I should make sure.

I'd love to see the sprites on the wiki, I cant animate them for shit (>W<) and I wanna use some of the gifs for stuff.

as for the direction, I figure they should be facing the way they are when you sent them to battle (wish I knew directions) and probably the idle animation will be the best.

p.s-what wiki are we talking about? XD

I've actually been working on animating these already. I've decided to go with the direction they face when fighting against and viewed in the menu. I've been working on 5 Gif versions. 1: standing, 2: attacking (just the two frames), 3: attacked, 4: 1+2, 5: 1+3
I've got quite a few done from requests on a different forum, the forum ones are resized but I have the original sizes in a different folder I've been working on.

Actually look sometime and you might find it.

Should I upload what I have or once I'm done with all of them?

It would save me a lot of effort.

Yeah I don't mind doing them, just a question on the sizes and what animation? Or should I just upload all the animations and let you guys decided what to use?

The default idle/standing animation is probably the best/easiest for this in my opinion.

I would say use the idle animations for now. If you have time/desire, then put in the other animations. Also, thanks in advance. :3

Gah! I haven't seen you since the LR forums!

Yeah the idles are the easiest thing in the world, the ones that float however are a tad tougher.

Thanks. You've been a great help. -Sarcasm-

And yeah idle is prolly the way to go.

Not to step on any toes, but I made a little script using imagemagick to automate this. It doesn't make any of the fancy transitions between idle/attacking, but that could be easily done.

sic it on the spritesheets

Here's the result:

Once again the power of coding saves the day! I was about a quarter of the way done. I noticed all the normal gifs are all 128x128, why is that?

That's how much space each frame is given I assume?
The "big" variants look like the same thing but all the white space is cropped out.
I'd imagine it would have hard for a program to figure out where one frame starts and ends if they were all different sizes.

edit: my english is very bad wow

When looking at YuugenMagan the sprite moves the same way in game, the middle eye moving down and to the left a bit, it seems to do a great job.

I copy and pasted a bunch to have it output the left facing versions as well, as they're probably desired. I know at least a few of them aren't just mirrored.
script: http://pastebin.com/gubCqNzU
twice as many gifs: https://mega.co.nz/#!85FWyCLb!stKg4peYFIgAP2zjtABMBop__s0XjKRg2u9Q5V51gYc

I decided to trim the the large versions because otherwise they would be 256x256. Meanwhile, the large versions aren't easily expanded to a nice standard size like 128x128 because sprites like Raiko and Tenshi are too big. Trimming the small ones as well can be arranged.

Thanks for your work, snaggles. I can promise you that these gifs will be put to good use.

Cross-posting here for additional awareness: Komachi and Shikieiki's sprites are missing entirely from the wiki.  In addition, Ruukoto only has a static image, and is missing a properly animated sprite.

Reviving this thread because I ripped all the new alt costume sprites. I also decreased the delay before each frame so they'll look funny next to the old ones.

Awesome job and thank you. Always wanted those costume gifs.
